The rising star that the exhibition circuit can no longer do without... Constant Dullaart can always be found showing his work somewhere. He is a critic of media, highly active on the internet, and is an equally talented critic of himself and of his vocation of contemporary visual artist.
After graduating from the Rijks Academie, Constant Dullaart (1979) quickly became known as part of a group of artists that investigate, comment and criticize the effects of Internet worldwide. Dullaart has set himself the target to translate the work of conceptual artists using modern media. The artwork itself is reduced to an idea in a broader cultural field , for instance how does a website become a piece of art ? With a site dedicated to one of his influences, Seth Siegelaub, that shows a digital photo of a giant balloon that can only be viewed in parts, Dullaart again indicates that the idea or representation for him is more important than the art object itself.
Apart from investigating Dullaart is also known for his criticism of the medium as well as his own position as a visual artist. The internet as explained by Siegelaub could be seen as a democratic way of valuating artworks. Yet this is not the case, according to Dullaart. In this sense collaboration is an important part in the work of Dullaart, and one way in which he does this is by exchanging concepts with other internet artists. Given his investigations his art is not only visually attractive but also raises interesting questions about the future of art and the artist.
