Robert Hampson is an English musician, known primarily as a guitarist. In 1986 he and his wife at the time, drummer Bex, co-founded Loop in London. Loop recorded three albums, the last of which “A Gilded Eternity” made the UK album charts. After Loop disbanded, Hampson formed Main with fellow Loop member Scott Dawson, releasing several albums on Beggars Banquet Records. Main became a solo project for Hampson in 1996 and has continued sporadically since. He also collaborated with Jim O’Rourke on a short lived project called Indicate, releasing one album, “Whelm” on Touch Records. The pair also worked together on the Organum albums “Sphyx” and “Veil Of Tears”.

Hampson was also a member of Godflesh for a while, touring with the band and appearing on their 1992 release Pure
