'Asra, la poupée vivante' is a collaboration between the musicians Raymond Dijkstra
(Netherlands) and Timo van Luijk (Belgium).

Although they've been working together since 1992 this specific project started 10 years later,
in 2002.

The basic setup of Asra consists of an unusual variety of acoustic instruments (basstuba,
harmonium, pianoharp, monochord, flute,...) with the emphasis on the natural sound of the
instruments. However, this natural sound is sometimes modified by radical audio-effects to
distort the perception of acoustic reality.
So far concerts have taken place in Belgium and the Netherlands. During a performance the
duo plays all music entirely live, improvised 'on location'. The ideal environment to
experience Asra's dreamed world of altered consciousness is a 'living room setting', with
moderate volume, adapted light and sometimes furnishing.
In all those years only 1 LP entitled 'Souvenir à Asra, la poupée vivante' got released in 2003.
Apart from this collaboration Raymond Dijkstra also plays solo under his own name and
Timo van Luijk plays solo as Af Ursin.
