Currently lives and works in Amsterdam. In the work of Martijn Hendriks abstraction, materiality and meaning are explored through a performative approach to the art work. Collected materials are used as a source for sculptures and videos that consider the language of abstraction in relation to the dispersion of images and information and their ongoing translation from one form or medium into another.

Hendriks's work has recently received increasing international attention. One of his ongoing projects, the removal of birds from Hitchcock’s classic movie by the same name, The Birds, has gained a lot of attention and has gotten recognition for its innovative and unique character. His work has been exhibited among other venues at Montevideo, Amsterdam, Galerie im Regierungsviertel in Berlin and Neoncampobase Gallery, Bologna, and was included in the 53rd Venice Biennale's collateral events in 2009. Upcoming exhibitions include group shows at the New Museum in New York City, the Museum of Modern Art in Rome and Smart Project Space, Amsterdam.

In 2008 Hendriks received the International Kraft Prize for New Media awarded by Washington Project for the Arts and The Phillips Collection.
