New Wave of American Trash Metal. Skeletonwitch is an American thrash metal band from Athens, Ohio. They are currently signed to Prosthetic Records. They are considered part of the "thrash revival" era along with Warbringer, Toxic Holocaust, and Municipal Waste.
Skeletonwitch's vocals are characteristically in the death metal/black metal vein, with Chance Garnette performing both the guttural shouts and the higher pitched shrieks.
Vocalist Chance Garnette and guitarist Nate Garnette are brothers.
They were one of four opening acts for the 2008 Blackest of the Black Tour, (created by Danzig founder and former Misfits member, Glenn Danzig). Other bands on this tour included the popular Norwegian band, Dimmu Borgir, and Danzig.
Skeletonwitch toured with Cannabis Corpse, a Cannibal Corpse tribute band with a pot-themed lyrics, in January 2009.[1]
The band has also been featured in the heavy metal magazines Decibel (Jan. 2008, issue 39), Revolver (Jan. 2008, issue 64), and Metal Maniacs (Nov./Dec. 2007, Vol.24, No. 12).[2]
Skeletonwitch released their third studio album by the name of Breathing The Fire on October 13, 2009 to critical acclaim, with one website describing it as "an excellent release that shows that thrash can incorporate influences and stylistic flourishes from other genres and still retain the energetic aggression for which the genre is so beloved"[3].
